Terms of use

Who we are
sharedlist is operated by Ndumiso Makhanya, trading as sharedlist, in Johannesburg, South Africa. These terms are an agreement between you and us about using this website and the sharedlist app.
Joining a community
You may join a community on sharedlist only if its trustees, estate manager or managing agent have subscribed and you appear on its roster, or a verified neighbour has vouched for you. One account per person. Keep your sign-in details private, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account.
What sharedlist is
sharedlist is a place where verified neighbours arrange their own exchanges. When you lend, borrow, buy, sell, hire or help, the agreement is between you and your neighbour. sharedlist is not a party to it, does not own the items, does not provide the services and does not employ the providers.
Payments and credits
Payments made in the app are processed by a licensed payment provider and held until the buyer confirms collection. sharedlist never holds your money. Credits are a thank-you between neighbours. They have no cash value, cannot be bought, sold or transferred, and lapse when an account is closed.
Fees
Residents never pay to join. A fee applies only when a seller or provider chooses to be paid in the app, and it is shown before you confirm. Your community pays its subscription under a separate agreement with us.
Your conduct
- Be honest about who you are, what you offer and the condition of items.
- Treat neighbours with respect. No harassment, discrimination or threats.
- Do not list anything illegal, dangerous or on the prohibited items list.
- In security reports, describe behaviour, not people. Moderators review any report that identifies a person.
- Do not move a payment off the platform to avoid buyer protection.
- Adults may not message members under 18 outside their own household.
Business sellers and providers
If you sell or provide services as a business, the Consumer Protection Act and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act apply to you, and you must say that you are a business.
Content
You own what you post. You give sharedlist permission to show it to your community so the service can work. We may remove content that breaks these terms or your community's guidelines.
Moderation and suspension
Community moderators and sharedlist may warn, restrict or suspend accounts that break these terms. Serious matters are reported to the authorities.
Disputes
Try to resolve a disagreement with your neighbour first. If that fails, use the dispute flow in the app. Handover codes, condition photos and in-app messages are the record we rely on. Where in-app payment protection applies, our decision on releasing or refunding the payment is final.
Liability
We provide sharedlist as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from an exchange between members, from an item lent or sold, from a provider's work, or from information another member posts. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act.
Ending your account
You can leave at any time in Settings once your open loans, sales and bookings are complete. We may close accounts for breach of these terms, or when a community's subscription ends.
Privacy
How we handle your information is set out in our privacy notice.
Law
South African law applies to these terms, and the courts of South Africa have jurisdiction.
Changes
We will tell you before these terms change in a way that affects you. Continuing to use sharedlist after that date means you accept the new terms.
