How a confidential sale works.

Selling a business is not like selling a couch. Staff, customers and competitors must not find out before you are ready, and only serious buyers should see the numbers.

  1. 1

    You publish a teaser

Sector, area, asking price, turnover band, years trading, how it is run, premises and reason for sale. No name, no address, no photos that identify the business.

  2. 2

    Buyers ask to see more

A signed-in buyer with verified contact details accepts the non-disclosure terms and tells you briefly who they are. Sellers can require the verified buyer badge, which means identity checked and a declaration of funds.

  3. 3

    You approve each buyer

Only then do they see the name, the financial summary, the lease, staff and assets. You see exactly who has seen what, and when, and you can withdraw access at any time.

  4. 4

    Talk, visit, agree

Messaging stays inside the app until you choose to share contact details. Your own accountant and attorney handle the sale agreement; SharedList takes no commission.

One plan, no commission.

Brokers typically take a percentage of the sale. Listing sites that are free earn from the brokers. SharedList charges a flat monthly price and nothing on the sale itself.

Prices in rand. VAT is included where it applies. Buyers browse and enquire free. A document room for due diligence is planned for the app.

Questions, answered.

Do buyers pay anything?

No. A buyer signs up free, verifies their contact details and accepts the non-disclosure terms for each business they want to see. The verified buyer badge, which some sellers require, involves an identity check.

What does a non-disclosure agreement here actually do?

The buyer agrees, with their verified identity on record, not to share or misuse what they learn. It is a real agreement between the buyer and the seller, and sellers can add their own terms. For large deals your attorney may still ask for a signed document.

Can a broker list on behalf of an owner?

Yes, on the business seller plan. Brokers are labelled as brokers and show their registration where one applies. The owner's instruction to sell is confirmed before the listing goes live.

Does SharedList value the business or handle the sale?

No. The valuation guide helps you set an asking price, and the platform handles discovery, confidentiality and buyer screening. The sale agreement, due diligence and transfer are between you, the buyer and your advisers.
